Purnima/Poornima means full moon. Purnima is a day or tithi which falls in every Hindu month. On Poornima full moon occurs. Purnima separates the two lunar fortnights or Paksha. Shukla Paksha (Bright Fortnight) ends on Poornima and Krishna Paksha (Dark Fortnight) starts from Purnima. Most people fast on Purnima. There are 12 purnima occurs in one Hindu year, one in every Hindu month. Kartik Purnima, Guru Purnima, Sharad Purnima are very popular days.
