Amavasya is the dark night or no Moon day in the Hindu Calender. Amavasya is the darkest night having much importance. This day have more important for Tantriks and Yogis as most of the Blackmagic is performed on Amavasya night.
As it falls on Somvar(Monday )Somvati Amavasya have much of its significance. In Hindu Religion on Somvati Amavasya of the married hindu women keep fast on this day.
As, Monday is the day of Lord Shiva so people take much benefits by worshiping him. Somvati Amavasya has its own importance as it gives enormous effects to the devotees. To reduce Shani Dosh & Pitra Dosh Somvati Amavasya is the best day. It is believed that as Dark night moves to a delightfull morning in the same way dark phase of life also moves towards the bright future.
As the night is converted from no moon day to full moon day in the same way our life’s darkness is also reduced and become bright like Full moon of Poornima.

- Peepal Tree has much importance on this day 108 Parikrama is done by Married Women.
- In early Morning Sacred Dip is taken in Holy River.
- Do Brahmin Bhoojan.

Amavasya is the new moon night according to Hindu calendar. Hindu calendar is based on lunar calendar. In most part of India, Hindu calendar month starts on the day after the new moon or Amavasya. Amavasya is the last day of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight), according to Hindu calendar. Amavas falls on every Hindu month. In the night of Amavasya the moon doesn’t appear. Most people fast on Amavas. If, Amavasya falls on Monday than it is known as Somvati Amavasya on the other hand if any month Amavasya falls on Saturday than it is called Shani Amavasya.
Generally, all Amavasya days are appropriately good to perform Shraddha pujan or Tarpanam. Amavasya is also very important day to perform Kalasarpa Dosha puja.
